Introduction
Had quite a humbling, refreshing and inspirational conversation with the warm-hearted Dr Mohammed.
He was born in Bahrain which is a small country situated in the Persian gulf. Brought up in a very artistic household, he chose a rigorous career pathway to finally end up in themaxillofacial field.
He is currently a Senior Consultant Maxillofacial, and Head & Neck Surgeon at the Royal Medical Services, Bahrain Defence Force (RMS-BDF) Hospital
Kingdom of Bahrain.
He is also an associate (Section) Editor -
British Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (BJOMS), Oxford
United Kingdom (UK)
Yes, quite an outstanding CV and I felt so honored to have a rather pleasant conversation with him that it almost felt like I was talking to a friend.
He actually started his education by doing his Scottish Highers in Glasglow in a very multinational school that bridged that gap between life in bahrain and the UK.
He initially applied for dental school in Glasgow but ended up at our very own dundee dental hospital and graduated in 1998. He says this was one of the best things that has ever happened to me. Dundee gave me so much both academically and socially that I will forever be indebted to it.
He then applied for his masters in oral medicine and completed his MFDS and FFD in 2002, this masters pushed him closer to appreciate the field of surgery and he reapplied for medical school at the University of Dundee.
While he was undertaking medical school, he also applied for SpR ( specialist registratra job) where he was mentored by maxillofacial surgeons. He graduated medical school in 2007.
He then undertook 4 years of specialist training before returning to Bahrain in 2011.
Looking back and first-hand talking to someone that had this wondrous journey in the field of scienc was an incredibly humbling experience
