Im Priyanka, currently a 3rd dental student in Dundee, Scotland. In these 3 years, I have realised that dental school teaches you how to be a great clinician, how to practice in a safe and reliant manner, It teaches you the essential and core skills we need as dentists. But this is just the base. Once students have completed dentistry, we all have different visions of our future.
These dreams often require different skill sets from learning how to manage business accounts if you envision owning a clinic to learning how to teach if you are in academia.
I was curious to learn what people did to gain these skills and what we can do as students to prepare us for these opportunities.
Even drawing from my own life, from growing up in Kenya to pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Western Australia and now being situated in Dundee, studying dentistry!!
You never know where life can lead you. I started this newsletter from a place of anxiety for my future and fear of the unknown. But by hearing the stories of different dentists and how they live their lives, I gained a sense of comfort knowing if they can make it so can we.
