Introduction

Had the most inspiring, insightful and uplifting conversation with Dr Trudee Hoyte. She is originally from the beautiful Caribbean islands of Trinidad and Tobago.

Unlike the other Caribbean islands, Trinidad's main income doesn't come from tourism alone but is from its oil and gas industry- making it the wealthiest of the islands.

After a 2 hour chat, I learnt what the epitome of time management is from Dr Trudee Hoyte. Getting up at 3:30 am to climb the gorgeous mountains ranges in Trinidad to see the glorious sunrise with her walking group 3 times per week. As well as  juggling her private clinic, lecturing duties and completing her PHD research papers.

Her story really opens you up to how far one can stretch the same 24 hours that everyone gets to truly understand the delicate dance of yin & yang in life.

Her dental journey began at the University of the West Indies in Trinidad (UWI) where she completed her DDS in 2000.

After graduating between 2000 and 2004, Dr Trudee worked as an General dentist in two seperate clinics in her hometown. Although, by this time she had her eyes set on Orthodontics and therefore insisted to work in 2 orthodontic clinics giving her time up for free. This time for her was absolutely crucial in learning how to deal with different emergencies and understanding the working of an orthodontic clinic.

She then received a scholarship from UWI Trinidad to complete her orthodontics (MScD) at Cardiff University (2004-2007).

Between 2007-2008, she stayed to complete her Membership in Orthodontics(MOrth) with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. She also did courses in lingual orthodontics and Temporary Anchorage Devices(TADS). In 2008 she started lecturing at UWI in Trinidad. She also worked with an Orthodontist for 7 months. In 2009 she completed her MFDS.

In 2010- She opened her first private practice in Trinidad.

Between 2012- 2015: In the midst of juggling her own practice, working as a lecturer- She decided to do a certification in teaching with the University of Dundee.(UOD)

Finally, between 2016-2020- She completed her Phd on bimaxillary protrusion in the bites in Trinidad and Tobago.

2021- current: She is an honorary lecturer at the Uni of Edinburgh and is also completing her diploma in medical science education with  UOD as well as lecturing at UWI and managing her private clinic.
